Welcome to the first edition of Dodo Notes, where all the latest development news regarding both The Deer and Planet X are showed off! Today, we got some news about some design changes regarding The Deer, Planet X, and the website.
Let’s dive in, shall we?
The Deer Design Changes
So some changes have been made to what The Deer is going to be, but these changes are final and will not be changed again.
No longer multiple chapters, so no post release content planned
No longer features 3 cryptids
Takes place in the mountains of Colorado now
Release still in 2019 for a small price
These are just some of the changes I made. I felt some burnout from development recently and I traced that to the massive scope creep that was happening to this game. The truth is, I’m just one guy. I can’t make a massive game with lots of stuff. So I’m going to make this exactly how I planned back in 2018, simple but effective.
The Steam Page and Website will be updated to reflect these changes.
Also expect a new trailer in September.
Website Design Changes
Not a lot of changes to the website other than updated information and stuff. Probably the biggest change is that I removed the old devlogs and replaced them with Dodo Notes. The devlogs seemed to get really inconsistent and I didn’t really like that format.
Dodo Notes are going to be posts that talk about development regarding both games. They will be posted once or twice a month depending on how much there is to talk about.
Planet X Design Changes
Planet X is still in very early development, but the plan is there. Development is going to slow down until The Deer is released on Steam, after that it is going to be picked back up in high gear.
Note: I am not halting development, I will still be working on it every now and then, just not as much as I need to prioritize The Deer if I want to get it out this year.
Planet X is going to be a really great game if I can pull it off. I am extremely excited to work on it and hopefully be able to share the vision I have for this game because I think it’s gonna be a good one.
The Deer A.K.A. Agilevak
Recently, the model and design for the main enemy in The Deer, the deer or otherwise known as the Agilevak, has been remade to work more efficiently as well as look better.
Some key features about this new model:
More deer-like antlers
Better animation rig
More detailed textures
Coming with the new model are new animations!
These animations have proved to be a bit tricky but the new animation rig makes it a lot easier as well as the new Blender 2.8 version.
These animations are designed to resemble that of a real deer but not exact, because well, it’s not a deer.
Commander Tomine Reyes
In Planet X, the player takes control of Commander Tomine Reyes and what better way to introduce that character than to show off what she looks like?
This model was built from the ground up unlike the new deer model. The design is inspired by past apollo suits and some new ones like the boeing suit.
The animation rig is not ready enough to show off animations as it is not yet perfected.
