It’s time to chill with a chilly new map and some more development news in this edition of Dodo Notes!
Most equipment in the game is now implemented. Below is a list of what is finished.
The rifle works like a regular weapon in any video game. The scope actually works and looks pretty cool in my opinion. It works as if it’s another camera casting onto the scope mesh. In order to fire the rifle, you need to have ammo in your inventory.
The trail camera can be put in your inventory and placed on any aspen tree. There are not many aspen trees on the map, but there are enough to give you choices. Once a trail camera is placed on a tree, you can monitor it’s live feed from a laptop found at a base camp (there are multiple).
The motion sensor can be set up on aspen trees as well. It works in a way that if there is movement in front of it, you get an alert from a device at a base camp. You are only given one motion sensor, but it can be very useful. You can place it on the same tree as a trail camera.
There is more equipment you can use but it is not completely finished yet. These include the drone, speaker, walkie talkie, bear trap, etc.
Mr. Deer and Other Animals
So the main enemy, The Deer, Mr. Deer, Agilevak, Bambi, or whatever you want to call it, is not the only animal on the map. I’m currently working on implementing some other animals to roam around the map like regular deer, crows, bears, etc. This is just to add to the challenge and confusion.
Objective of The Deer
Some of you may be wondering, what do I do in this game? Like what is the objective?
So basically, your objective is simple: Don’t die and escape. You are trespassing in an abandoned area in order to find bigfoot just to find a more sinister being instead.
There are many different ways you can live and escape, I’ll leave those for you to find out.
The point of the equipment is that you can use that stuff to stall and avoid the deer to further your goal.
There has been a complete redesign of the map if you’ve followed progress in the past.
Some key features of this map are:
Detailed everywhere with lots of rocks, grass, and trees
Unique areas so it doesn’t look the same everywhere
Realistic invisible walls like rocks, trees, and cliffs
Large map with multiple paths and areas, non-linear
This map is filled with many secrets, easter eggs, and fun areas to explore. I still have yet to finish placing some props, but I’m excited to see how everyone will enjoy it.
Oh yeah, it’s also got some snow!
The Deer has been in development for a long time….a long time. And to be honest, I just want to get this thing out there for people to play. I’ve never released a game before so I’ve been cutting down on features and stuff to make The Deer a smaller game than I envision, but it’s for the better.
So basically: OCTOBER 2019
If you follow me on Twitter, you may have seen that I’ve been diving into some concept art for my next game Planet X.
A quick disclaimer: I’m not sure if this game will happen. It’s still in just the planning stages. I may do an entirely different game instead after The Deer.
The premise of this game would follow NASA astronaut Tomine Reyes as she crash lands on a mysterious planet after being sucked into a wormhole on a mission to Mars. This planet is home to a massive city and something more sinister coming from beneath the ground. More info about this later.
That’s it for Dodo Notes #2
Stay tuned for the next one as well as The Deer coming soon this month! If I missed anything or want to know more about stuff I maybe didn’t cover, reach out to me on either Twitter or Discord!
